Stonehill International School hosted Makeathon 2023, Bangalore’s first ever inter-school Design Technology Competition, with the aim of encouraging students to employ their creativity, problem-solving skills, and communication skills. The two-day event, sponsored by Newcastle University, UK, took place on the 3rd and 4th of February and had registrations from 36 teams across Bangalore.
The Stonehill Makeathon 2023 provided students with the opportunity to partake in a challenging competition where they innovated, created, and competed in a fun learning environment. The competition was divided into two groups: Group 1 Juniors (Grades 6–8) and Group 2 Seniors (Grades 9–12). The top seven finalists were teams from Legacy School, Silver Oaks International, Inventure Academy, Indus International School, 21K School, Christ College, and Stonehill International School. The event had three exciting rounds, including sketches, building the product, and presentations. Students had the opportunity to not only develop their game-changing ideas but to manufacture their products as well.
The participants worked in teams to come up with innovative solutions to the world’s most compelling issues. The theme for Group 1 was “Promoting Innovation Through Ergonomics.” The students worked on designs that helped advance productivity and efficiency in workspaces and learning environments. Team Spark Plugs from Stonehill International School won first place in the junior category.
The theme for Group 2 in the senior category was “Innovation for Socio-Economic Development.” The participants worked on designs that aided development in the social and economic sectors such as agriculture, construction, transportation, and more. Team DT Eagles of Indus International School won first place with their innovative Agritor Agricultural Enhancer, a product that helps farmers spray pesticides on plants using pipes, and also helps them plant seeds using a seed dropper.
The winners got exciting gift vouchers worth Rs. 60,000 from the event sponsor, Newcastle University, UK.
